I want to thank those of you who cast a public vote for FLORA, a fountain sculpture I recently created for downtown Baltimore at Hopkins, Plaza. I didn’t win the popular vote however I was a winner of the Jurors 2014 CODAWorx Award for public spaces.

In 1968, I received a B.A. from U of Wisconsin (Madison) and pursued further study in ceramics/sculpture at San Francisco Art Institute. I was awarded a full Fellowship and Teaching Assistantship at Rhode Island School of Design where I received my Masters.


I worked for several years as an Art Specialist for the National Park Service (NPS) and when the Agency acquired the former Glen Echo Amusement Park, I was chosen to help establish the site as the first urban park devoted to the arts and to develop and implement performing and visual arts programs. While at Glen Echo, I created and directed the Children’s Experimental Workshop, a multi-cultural program that brought arts programs to children from both the inner city of D.C. as well as local suburban communities and later extended the 6 year program to involve children with disabilities. With a grant from the National Endowment of the Arts, I documented the program in Children’s Experimental Workshop: Expanding the Park Experience to Children with Special Needs, a 190 page illustrated book that won a federal award for writing and was featured in the White House International Year of the Disabled. Great experience!

I left NPS to pursue my artistic career full time and since 1985 I’ve maintained a studio in Bethesda, MD. I expanded into commissioned public art and for over 35 years have created large scale sculptural works for universities, corporations, developers, as well as municipal, state, and federal art entities all over the country. There are 16 sculptural installations in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area. It continues to be a fascinating journey. For a glimpse of what I’ve been up to, google Wendy Ross sculpture.

I now spend my time between my studio and home here in Bethesda and a smaller studio on the Central Coast of Oregon with my husband and our rescue dog.
